On this site you will see the comments of others; I moderate all persons when they first post a comment on this site and whilst after that I make every effort to ensure that their content remains suitable for inclusion I have no control over the nature, content, recommendations, views or opinions expressed by persons commenting on this site. With regard to Google and; this privacy policy sets out how I use and protect any information that you give me when you use this website. I am committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should I ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy statement.

I may change this policy from time to time by updating this page. You should check this page from time to time to ensure that you are happy with any changes.

What I collect

In addition to the activities of Google Analytics I may ask for the following information:

  • name 
  • contact information including email address
  • IP address (collected automatically)

This information is used when you return to the site, for example to post another comment, it is optional and you do not need to provide your real details (the same as I don’t really need to publish your comment). If you believe that someone is impersonating you on this site please contact me by the methods outlined above and I shall remove all offending content, plus provide details of IP address used etc.

This information is also used for the purposes of spam prevention. Your details will be compared internally against a public list of known spammers and if your details match any of those known spammers you will be blocked from adding content to this site. Also and if I believe you are using this site for spamming (whether you are on the public list or not) I will provide ALL the information you have given to me (including IP address, comments made, email address, EVERYTHING) to a spam prevention provider.

I am committed to ensuring that your information is secure and in order to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure I am using regularly updated off the shelf website software (e.g. WordPress), a known and trusted hosting service and am following good practice for the use of passwords etc. However I do not in any way guarantee that any information you provide is secure.

If I am asked by ANY law enforcement agency to disclose your information I will do so without consulting you.

How I use cookies
A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie allows web applications to respond to you as an individual (which is how for example your details are remembered on this site for certain browsers). The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.

If you do then when you load your 2nd page from my old site the warning disappears from the top of the page. It does not contain any personal information, and is not shared with any third party, nor is it used for tracking purposes.

This is used by one of my themes or plugins, however I am unable to determine which, I do not store any information relating to this cookie. Please contact Quantcast for more information.
__utma, _utmb, _utmc, _utmk, _utmv, _utmx, _utmztrackingsemi-permanent (2+ years)These cookies are used by Google Analytics, which records information about all the visitors to my site:
  • __utmz stores where a visitor came from (search engine, search keyword, link)
  • __utma stores each user's amount of visits, and the time of the first visit, the previous visit, and the current visit (presumably partly for double checking of this information).
  • __utmb and __utmc are used to check approximately how long you stay on a site: when a visit starts, and approximately ends (c expires quickly).
  • __utmv is used for user-custom variables in Analytics
  • __utmk - digest hashes of utm values (verify)
  • __utmx is used by Website Optimizer, when it is being used (I think)

You can choose to accept or decline cookies. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies if you prefer. This may prevent you from taking full advantage of this website, but the disadvantage to you should be minimal.

Controlling your personal information

You may request details of any personal information which I hold about you under the Data Protection Act. This will be done free of charge HOWEVER I will need you to confirm your identity.

If you so wish, at any time, I will remove all information I hold about your from my site (please allow me a reasonable amount of time to do this; I do not work on this site full time and may be away on holiday etc).

Your information will be removed initially from my database and will be fully deleted when the site backups are cycled (takes a few days).
